We Serve the Yuma, AZ Area

While foster-based (no central facility), we host adoption events throughout Yuma every month. Find us on social media for event announcements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to our most common questions.

We are a foster-based rescue, which means our animals live in private foster homes throughout Yuma — not in a central shelter building. This model allows us to serve more animals and give each one a less stressful environment while they wait for their forever home.

Once your adoption application is reviewed and approved, we'll schedule a meet-and-greet at a neutral location in Yuma or at the foster parent's home. We also host adoption events in Yuma where you can meet multiple pets in person — follow our Facebook page for event announcements.

We take surrenders on a case-by-case basis depending on our current foster home capacity. Please email us at Bowman.Shiann@gmail.com with details about the animal, including photos, age, temperament, and medical history. We will do our best to help or refer you to additional resources.

From application to bringing your pet home, the process typically takes 3–10 days. We review applications within 48 hours, then schedule a meet-and-greet, and complete the adoption paperwork and fee. Some high-demand animals may have multiple applicants — we always try to make the best match for the animal.

For found animals, please first contact Yuma County Animal Control at (928) 373-1220. If you find an animal in immediate danger, please call local authorities. YHBR can sometimes assist with rehoming found pets when our capacity allows — email us with details and we'll do our best to help or connect you with resources.

Yes — completely. Not a single person at YHBR receives a salary or stipend. Every dollar donated goes directly to animal care: vet bills, food, transport, and supplies. Our volunteers do this purely out of love for animals and community.

Still have questions? Email us directly — we're happy to help.
